If you were camping or on a road trip…

What kind of food do you bring?

What is your favorite food to take camping?

Do you have any on the road food secrets?

Just wondering…

say maybe if you were to plan a 7 day camping trip…

down the coast or somethin…

and this was your lodging…

hypothetically what would you cook?

what would your cooler have in it?

while you were hypothetically camping on the coast…

for 7 days…

Just curious…. 😉

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So not to change the subject abruptly or anything…
The next two weeks are a little on the crazy busy side…
I might hafta hang my “Gone Fishin” sign up if it gets too heck-tick
There might be some camp sparkle craft fun happening…
(idea stolen from Nancy at The Goat and the Kid)
this will need further attention after the sparkle takes place!!  =)
maybe a niece will be visiting for a few days…
maybe friends and family will be coming and going…
we might be wrapping up summer soccer…
there are Definitely beaches to visit…
just a little summer fun all packed into the next two weeks…
and of course…
just as life is about to get crazy busy…
This guy…
decides to have 24 hours of really disgusting… um… well… urgent outings have been taking place for the last 24 hours… and since he only likes to go in the front yard… the dog has been SPRINTING to the front  yard after frantically scratching my door down to a thin layer of glass… so …Normally when I leave the house Merlin is fine in his crate for a few hours… I will spare you details… lets just say his crate also needed a good cleaning after I spent a couple hours in the dental chair today …not to mention the aroma in my house…  fantastic!.. If you are the prayin type… please pray this guy improves quickly and does not need to see the vet…. AGAIN… I am seriously going to come unglued!! one thing after another with this guy… seriously?!!?
oh…
and just for fun…
This little “lady”
brought us a dead chipmonk … IN the house …today…
which Merlin promptly carried around in his mouth for a few seconds…
before my hero rescued the dead chipmonk from being chewed to bits…
and tossed it into the woods just behind the house OUTSIDE where it belongs!
eeeeeeeeeeew!
ANIMALS!!!  seriously … why do we bring these disgusting creatures to live in our homes with us??  =)  *sigh*
never a dull moment folks… never…
now if you will excuse me…
My pillow is calling!
    Okay. I didn’t grow up camping (much to Neil’s dismay) so I would never plan a 7-day camping trip. I’m quite sure my boys would love it, but I’m never planning it.
    Neil takes Sam for a night or 2, and they even camp in our backyard. I’m pretty sure they are happy with Doritos and poptarts. :o)
    Enjoy your time away!!
    Camping is my specialty, Jenn! I bring taco seasoning, ground beef, CHEESE (your fave, I know…) lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. and single serving bags of Fritos. You can make “walking tacos” – just open a bag of Fritos and plop in a scoop of seasoned meat (cook first, of course…) and then taco toppings. Yumm!
    I also pre-make stuff and pack in the cooler and reheat over a camp stove. Chili, stew, canned soup, pulled beef for sandwiches and sloppy joes.
    For lunches I always pick up hoagies, lunch meat and CHEESE, fruit and chips. Hot dogs, too. Good picnic food.
    I’ll be sharing a Bixler secret recipe for a very naughty camping food this week. It’s a no-cook, very easy concoction that we are known for in our camping circle of friends.
    Breakfasts always include eggs of some kind – scrambled, fried, whatever! Hashbrowns are great – buy the frozen cubes and put in cooler. Camping omelet: boil water. Put egg(s), cheese, diced ham and veggies for one omelet in ziplock food storage back. Make one bag for each family member. Put into pot of boiling water and boil until done. Perfect omelets for a crowd every time!
    To tell the truth – I don’t like camping…
    I hate to admit – because campers are freedom-lovers and adventures – and I would like to be looked at like this – but I’m not – psstt – just don’t tell anyone… ;o
    And I have the biggest respect for you!!!
    EEEW! to all the animal stuff! Wow! Yucky! Ok, camping food. You know I’m a self-proclaimed expert at this. #1… do all food prep in advance. All the chopping, everything you can do beforehand, do. Then, using ziploc bags to store all your meal components in, seperate your smaller ziplocked meal pieces into gallon sized ziplocs labeled meal#1, meal #2, etc. For breakfast I do breakfast burritos… tortillas, precooked sausage sectioned out into however many breakfasts I’m going to be needing. Chili dogs… bean and meat burritos… chicken burgers (you can pre-marinate the meat)
    Oh no about the puppy problems. Not fun. Hope he is better soon. I am not a big camping fan…but I would bring hot dogs and smores….that is all. LOL
    Our all-time favorite camping meal are kabobs. Beef, chicken, shrimp, whatever. Like Naomi said, pre-prep it all in bags, meat, onions, bell peppers, pineapple, mushrooms, zukes, whatever floats your boat.
    We also take corn in the husk and whatever day you want to make it, soak it in some water for a few hours, throw it on the grill, voila – grilled corn in the husks, unwrap the charred husk, slather on some butta. mmmmmmmm, hmmmm!
    We always do simple breakfasts, unless we go with my parents and they have a travel trailer with a stove and we’ll make biscuits and gravy with bacon and eggs. Etc. Take your cast iron!
    I wanna go camping now. Just as soon as it cools off.
    We go camping all of the time! Well, maybe not all of the time…but I have been going since I was very small. And most of the trips have been spent in a tent.
    Seeing your doggy makes me so excited to get ours. It has taken forever…but we are getting him the first week of August. I can’t wait! I think we are going to name him Murphy.
    Oh I’m sorry about your dog! I hope he’s doing better very soon. Cleaning up after that is the worst. It’s up there with kids vomit! YUCK!
    Camping… I would have to say that we have not camped much since having kids. Ours are still young, and I just have not wanted to attempt it. But if I were going… I’d bring pb jams (already made for you!), hot dogs, redvines, and eggs and bacon for really yummy morning breakfast burritos. 🙂
